Francisco Chahuán


Senator of the Republic of Chile for the Valparaíso Region and a member (and founder) of the Committee on Future Challenges, Science, Technology, Innovation and Knowledge. A lawyer, writer and politician, he holds postgraduate qualifications; he has a Master's in International Relations and Human Rights (UCAM) and is pursuing a Master's in Foresight and Strategic Analysis (FLACSO). He has chaired committees such as Foreign Affairs, Human Rights, Health, Transport and Telecommunications, and Future Challenges. He is recognized for the high number of bills introduced and laws enacted since 1990. Internationally, he leads inter-parliamentary committees and the Chile-China Political Dialogue Committee; he founded and chaired for 12 years the Chile-Morocco inter-parliamentary committee; he serves on the board of the Union of Latin American Parties; he was unanimously elected to the Human Rights Committee of the Inter-Parliamentary Union; and he is Chile's delegate to the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace. He is the author of around twenty books and two documentaries. He has been decorated with the Grand Cross of the Order of Civil Merit (Spain) and the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon (Japan).
