Guido Girardi Lavín

Executive Vice President of Fundación Encuentros del Futuro and co-founder of Congreso Futuro, the leading forum for ideas and science in Latin America. He served as President of the Senate of Chile (March 2011-March 2012), Senator for two terms (2006-2021), and Member of the Chamber of Deputies (1994-2006). He chaired (and founded) the Committee on Future Challenges, Science, Technology and Innovation, playing a key role in the law that created the Ministry of Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation. A physician with a Master of Public Health (University of Chile), he spearheaded the Food Labelling Law (“warning labels”), now adopted in more than 30 countries and recognized with the Jacques Diouf Award (UN-FAO) and the Science of Peace Award (Inter-American Heart Foundation). Together with neuroscientist Rafael Yuste and other experts, he promoted the first constitutional reform on neuro-rights in the world. He is an active proponent of public health, environmental protection, and clean energy policies.
