J. Julio E. Herrera-Velázquez

Studied Physics for his Bachelor's, Master's, and PhD in Sciences (Physics) at the School of Sciences of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM.) He is currently a Senior Researcher at the Institute of Nuclear Sciences of UNAM, where he has served as Academic Secretary and Head of the Department of Plasma Physics. He has served as a member of program committees for various events, such as the International Atomic Energy Agency's International Fusion Congress, for which he has served as a temporary advisor, the technical meetings of the Agency on Small Fusion Experiments, and the Latin American Plasma Physics Workshop, which he organized in Mexico City in 1992, 2005, and 2017. He teaches courses at the School of Sciences and the Graduate Program in Physical Sciences at the UNAM. His research interests focus on the study of plasma physics with an emphasis on problems related to Controlled Nuclear Fusion. In a broader sense, he is interested in the various solutions to the problems posed by the peaceful uses of nuclear energy, such as the use of fusion reactors for the production of fission fuel and the transmutation of radioactive waste. He served as Secretary General and editor of the Bulletin of the Mexican Physics Society (SMF) from 2021 to 2024, as well as co-founder of the Fluid Dynamics and Plasma Physics Divisions. He is currently a member of the Editorial Board of the Revista Mexicana de Física.
